St. Patrick School in Owego is kicking off its 150th-anniversary year with its annual fall festival, scheduled for Sept. 19-20.
The festival, which will take place on St. Patrick’s church and school grounds, serves as the school’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Approximate starting times are 5 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday. Among the festival’s highlights will be the "St. Pat’s Idol" competition in both teen and adult divisions.
Father William Moorby, pastor of Blessed Trinity/St. Patrick parishes, noted that special events will be held throughout the 2008-09 school year to mark the sesquicentennial.
The school enters 2008-09 under the leadership of Paula Smith, who has replaced Linda Biggs as principal. Smith, who has 35 years’ experience overall as a teacher and/or administrator, also will continue her role as fifth-grade teacher.
