For three days, the parking lot of Waterloo’s St. Mary Church will be filled with food, games and entertainment for the St. Francis and St. Clare Summer Festival.
The event takes place July 23-25 in the parking lot of the church at 35 Center St. in Waterloo. Food is available starting at 5 p.m., with games beginning at 6 p.m. each night. Admission to the festival, which will take place rain or shine, is free. Due to limited parking at the church, attendees can park at Waterloo High School, 96 Stark St., and ride the free shuttle to the festival.
Festival highlights will include cash raffle, games for children and adults, a baked goods booth, touch-a-truck contest, and a basketball shootoff. Among the many food and drink options will be fried fish and fish sandwiches, which will be available all nights of the festival. DJ Karen will provide the music on July 23, while Center Street Band and Rockin’ Boots will play July 24 and July 25, respectively.
One of the things the festival is known for is its Royal Flush dunk station, where attendees attempt to hit a target that will cause water to drop over the person sitting in the dunk station. During the second night of the festival, Diocese of Rochester seminarian Charles Moskov and newly ordained priest Father David Cataline will sit in the hot seat. On the festival’s final day, Father James Fennessy, pastor of St. Francis and St. Clare Parish, will take his turn.
In light of the festival, the Saturday vigil Mass at St. Mary Church will take place at 4 p.m. instead of its regularly scheduled time of 5 p.m.
