Volunteers at a home for the dying and disaster-relief donations are in great need, according to Father Michael Schramel, pastor of Holy Family Parish in Steuben and Livingston counties.
In his bulletin column for Oct. 30, Father Schramel wrote that at Vincent House — a home for the dying in the former convent at St. Joseph Church in Wayland — “recent declines in the number of volunteers have forced Vincent House to stop welcoming guests. Hopefully, through your generous gift of time, we will soon be able to resume this wonderful ministry.”
The pastor also noted that Dr. Walayat Kahn, a cardiologist from Dansville, is seeking relief funds following a massive earthquake in his native country of Pakistan in early October.
“As winter comes to this mountainous area, many are suffering greatly from lack of food and shelter,” Father Schramel wrote, noting that donations may be made to Holy Family Parish and will in turn be forwarded to the Pakistan and Kashmir Earthquake Disaster Fund, care of the Islamic Center of Rochester.
