Penn Yan school plans Thanksgiving run

St. Michael School in Penn Yan will hold its second-annual Turkey Trot 5K Fun Run on Nov. 28, which is Thanksgiving Day.

The race will start at 8:30 a.m., and a Kids Fun Run for children 10 and under will begin at 9:30 a.m. Awards will be presented to the top finishers in each age group during a 10 a.m. ceremony. Walkers are welcome to participate in the 5K.

The fee to register for the Turkey Trot is $25 per person in advance, or $30 per person on the day of the race. The registration fee for the Kids Run is $5 per person, but that fee will be waived for children who also sign up for the Turkey Trot. Participants who bring nonperishable food items for the school’s food drive will receive one raffle ticket for every two items donated. Proceeds from the event will benefit St. Michael School.

The 3.1-mile course has been certified by USA Track and Field, the national governing body for track and field, long-distance running and race walking. USATF will sanction the race, which will be professionally timed by PCR Timing.
