Pet blessings, a Mass and a movie have been scheduled at Southern Tier churches to honor the feast of St. Francis of Assisi.
A pet blessing will take place Sunday, Oct. 1, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary of the Lake Church, Watkins Glen, on the 10th Street side of the parish center. A blessing also is scheduled for 1 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, 1110 Pennsylvania Ave., Apalachin.
On Oct. 4, the feast day of St. Francis, a pet blessing will be held at 6 p.m. at St. Mary Church, 224 Franklin St., Elmira. In addition, a special Mass will take place at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Church, Route 96, Catatonk. Also, a film, “An Inconvenient Truth,” which deals with global climate change, will be presented from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Catholic Charities, 215 E. Church St., Elmira.
St. Francis is the patron saint of animals and the environment.
