The Women’s Care Center, a Catholic ministry run by volunteers to help women with unexpected pregnancies, will celebrate its 27th year of operation with a Mass and fundraiser.
Bishop Salvatore R. Matano will celebrate a Respect Life Sunday Mass on Oct. 1 at 4:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church, 210 Pleasant St., Rochester. Following the Mass, a fundraising dinner for the center will be held at Harro East Ballroom in Rochester, with featured speaker Dr. Alveda King.
The center provides mothers in need with layettes, formula, diapers and clothes for babies and toddlers as well as portable cribs and umbrella strollers when available, said Hollie Harvey, a Women’s Care Center board member and volunteer counselor. Donations of these necessities or any other gently used equipment or clothes are always accepted, she said.
“We know the challenges and difficulties new motherhood can bring,” she said. “It is our privilege to provide free help and support, with compassion, care and understanding.”
The center, located at 3253 Lake Ave. in Rochester, is open from noon to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
