President’s power limited

To the editor:

I am a little tired of the speculations about the pro-choice position of our new president. They show how much you may know about moral theology, and how little about our U.S. Constitution: Whatever a presidential position towards abortion — a deed I consider a heinous crime — cannot influence the present status of the problem, because reversing Roe vs. Wade is not among his powers. Neither can he make any law criminalizing abortion. These are faculties of the Supreme Court and Congress. He may suggest it and sanction it, but not enact it. And if he vetoes it, Congress can override him.

As to the Supreme Court, even an absolute pro-life membership cannot reverse it without a case, because the Court cannon act motu propio. Please stop these useless tirades, and study the Constitution. By the way, Roe is the law of the land now, and our President swear(s) to defend and uphold the Constitution and laws of the USA. He is not going to violate the eighth Commandment.
