Prison presents icon to Living Stations group

The Living Stations youths from St. Margaret Mary Church in Apalachin recently received a special gift from Elmira Correctional Facility.

An icon titled “Christ of the Maryknoll” was presented by the prison’s chaplain, Peter Ladley, in gratitude for the Living Stations performance that took place there March 11. The icon depicts Jesus reaching out through barbed wire. It has been on display at St. Margaret Mary Church and will eventually be hung in the church hall.

The Living Stations program, held each Lent, involves numerous young people recreating Christ’s passion at sites across the Southern Tier. According to Sue White, St. Margaret Mary’s youth minister, the correctional facility always sends some token of thanks — including a painting from one of the prisoners two years ago.
