Pro-life feminists to hold forum in Seneca Falls Nov. 8

Feminists Choosing Life of New York is sponsoring a pro-life feminist forum Nov. 8 at the Seneca Falls Library, 47 Cayuga St. in Seneca Falls.

The theme of the forum is "Will the Real Feminist Please Stand Up?" and the event will coincide with the pro-choice National Organization of Women of New York’s annual meeting, which also will be held in Seneca Falls that day. Organizers of the pro-life feminist forum hope to show support for past, present and future anti-abortion feminists and their commitment to equal rights for all women and children, including the unborn.

Forum organizers hope to gather 100 women and men at the "When Anthony met Stanton" statue on East Bayard Street at 8:30 a.m. to sign a Declaration of Rights for Women and Children. At 9 a.m., also at the statue, there will be a re-enactment of the meeting of Susan B. Anthony, Amelia Bloomer and Elizabeth Cady Stanton.

Participants will then take a trolley to the Seneca Falls Library for the forum. There will be a 15-minute registration period at 9:30 a.m., and coffee and doughnuts will be available. At 9:45 Wendy McVeigh, vice president of Feminists Choosing Life of New York, will speak briefly and then introduce Suzanne Schnittman, who will speak from 10 to 10:40 a.m. Schnittman has a history doctorate, has taught women’s history at three local colleges and is the Rochester regional coordinator of New Yorkers Against the Death Penalty.

The next and final speaker will be Susan Wills, associate director for education of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Secretariat for Pro-Life Activities. The forum will adjourn at noon, and lunch will be provided for those who have made reservations in advance.
