Providence begins Medina complex

Providence Housing Development Corp., an affiliate of the Diocese of Rochester, broke ground June 18 on a new affordable-housing project for seniors and families in Medina, Orleans County.

The Old Oak Orchard Drive complex, Medina Country Estates, consists of 24 affordable rental apartments, with 12 in a single-story building and 12 in a two-story building. The complex will include 12 one-bedroom units, 10 two-bedroom units and two three-bedroom units. Two of the units will be handicapped accessible. All apartments have fully equipped kitchens, individually controlled heat and electric, wall-to-wall carpeting and cable-TV access. A community room and laundry room will be available to all residents.

Medina Country Estates is expected to open in the spring of 2008.

The project was funded by USDA Rural Development, the state Housing Trust Fund Corp., the state Division of Housing and Community Renewal Low Income Housing tax credits, the Richman Group Capital Corp. and the Greater Rochester Housing Partnership. Providence and TRA Development of Williamsville are the developers.
