Applications for St. Salome Apartments will be taken from May 21 until 4:30 p.m. June 18. The senior-living housing on the former campus of St. Salome School in Irondequoit features 39 affordable one- and two-bedroom apartments and six attached patio homes .
The housing is available for seniors ages 55 years and older who have incomes of less than 50 percent of the area median, which currently equates to $22,450 for one person or $25,650 for two people. Seven units are reserved for the frail elderly referred by Catholic Family Center, and eight project-based voucher units are reserved for people on the Rochester Housing Authority wait list.
Preliminary rents — which include heat and hot water — are $320 and $441 for the one-bedroom units, $541 for the two-bedroom units, and $599 for the attached patio homes.
The attached patio homes will be ready for occupancy starting in late summer 2008. The the apartments will be ready for occupancy in early spring 2009.
Each apartment includes a living area, kitchen, bath, storage, mini-blinds, cable access, and washer/dryer hook-ups. All are designed to meet handicapped accessible or adaptable standards. The building has an elevator, laundry facility, community rooms and additional storage space. Five of the apartments will be fully wheelchair accessible.
The attached patio homes have a living area, kitchen, bath, storage space, cable access, washer/dryer hook-ups, two bedrooms and a one-car garage. Tenants of the patio homes will have access to the community rooms and common laundry facilities in the main building.

All applicants will be placed on a waiting list in the order determined by a random lottery. Applicants will then be contacted in priority order to determine eligibility. Applications received after the close of the lottery will be placed on the wait list in the order they are received.
