* St. Ann’s Community CEO Betty Mullin-DiProsa was selected as the recipient of LeadingAge New York’s highest award, the Lawrence E. Larson Memorial Award of Honor. The award honors an individual in senior living services who is recognized for distinguished service, dedication and foresight in aging services. Mullin-DiProsa will receive the award at the LeadingAge New York annual conference and exposition May 22 at the Saratoga Hilton Hotel and Conference Center in Saratoga Springs.
* St. Rita School’s sixth-grade Odyssey of the Mind Team advanced to the world tournament after winning in its division during a state competition in March at SUNY Binghamton by solving the problem "The Email Must Go Through." The 2013 World Finals will take place at Michigan State University May 22-25. Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that promotes creative problem-solving.
* Deirdre McKiernan Hetzler wrote Irish America Reawakening: The Eoin McKiernan Story (Borealis Press), a biography of her father, a noted Irish-American scholar. Eoin McKiernan once chaired the English department at SUNY Geneseo and was a guest lecturer at Nazareth College. McKiernan hosted two popular television series on Ireland in the 1960s that aired on public television nationwide, prompting the founding of the national Irish American Cultural Institute. A launch for the book was held March 24 at St. John Fisher College, where McKiernan Hetzler formerly was a campus minister.
