Recognizing for February 2013

* Jane D. Sokolowski, a longtime counselor and program coordinator at Catholic Charities of Chemung/Schuyler, was recently named Counselor of the Year during the NeighborWorks National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. Sokolowski is a 16-year veteran of the Catholic Charities office in Elmira. During that time, she has been instrumental in helping numerous area residents avoid mortgage foreclosure and aiding low- to moderate-income families in purchasing their first homes.

* The St. James Mercy Auxiliary in Hornell raised more than $3,300 from a two-day holiday bazaar in November. In addition, a "Trees of Life" fundraiser — the purchasing of gold ornaments throughout December — raised $1,380, and a one-day book fair in December brought in further funds to support St. James Mercy Hospital.
