Recognizing for May

* High-school students from Newark Valley took part in Global Youth Service Day held April 25-26. The youths helped improve the children’s section at Tappan-Spaulding Memorial Library in Newark Valley and also joined in cleaning campsites, cabins and trails at Robert H. Treman State Park near Ithaca. This was a project of the YES Program of Catholic Charities’ Tioga Outreach Center.

* Thirty youths at St. Margaret Mary Church, Apalachin took part in the 30-Hour Famine held March 28-29. They went with no food for 30 hours to experience what hunger feels like, and raised $2,618 for World Vision to help those who are hungry every day.

* The Healthcare Association of New York State has presented its Auxiliary Advocacy Recognition to St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary in Elmira. During this past year the auxiliary has taken part in health fairs, cholesterol and glucose screenings, blood-pressure screenings, blood drives and Catholic Charities of the Southern Tier’s Mother’s Helpers Program.
