Rochester Diocese to host Black Catholic Congress event

The Diocese of Rochester is hosting a Day of Reflection in preparation for the National Black Catholic Congress XIII, which will convene in July 2023. The theme for the congress is “Write the Vision: A Prophetic Call to Thrive.”

The National Black Catholic Congress has convened every five years since 1987 and culminates in a national pastoral plan of action. Dioceses across the country conduct Days of Reflection prior to the congress, and reports from these events used as a guide for the congress’s programming and plan of action.

The Rochester Diocese’s Day of Reflection will take place Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bishop Hickey Conference Center, located at the diocesan Pastoral Center, 1150 Buffalo Road in Gates.

The event will include an opening prayer service; an overview of the Black Catholic Congress’ history; Scriptural reflections; discussion about mission and vision.
