For the last few weeks, parishioners of Holy Apostles Church in Rochester have taken to the streets to meet with neighbors and spread the word of the church by talking to and praying with those they meet. These “Missionaries of Peace” team members ask people if there is anything they can pray for together and, surprisingly, many say yes. The parishioners and the people pray for sick family members, help in finding jobs or just to make their lives better.
Hats off to them for leaving the four walls of the church and going out to the people, as Pope Francis and Pope John Paul II have said to do.
So many times people just stay in the safe environment of the church and preach to the choir, but not the Missionaries of peace. They are putting their faith into action. Maybe they will only change just one life, or maybe they will provide hope to someone during a hard time. That is what sharing faith is all about.
