Aquinas Institute will be closed Thursday, April 2, for the funeral of senior Joseph R. Mueller, 17, who died in a car crash on Ling Road in Greece Saturday, March 28.
The school is asking for prayers for its students and the families of those involved in the accident, including Joseph’s parents, Michael and Debra Mueller; his brother, Michael, Class of 2007; and his sister, Danielle, a freshman at the school.
There will be calling hours from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, at the Farrell-Ryan Funeral Home, 777 Long Pond Road, Greece. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 2, at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 3003 Dewey Ave., Greece. The school also came together for prayer services Sunday, March 29, and Monday, March 30, and calling hours March 31.
In a March 31 letter to Aquinas family members, Principal Dennis Sadler told them that each of the school’s theology classes reviewed and discussed the Rite of Christian Burial, so students know what to expect at a funeral.
“It is at these times that we are so fortunate to be in a Catholic school; our faith and community diminish our sorrow as we mourn Joe’s death, but at the same time we celebrate his entry into that heavenly kingdom where he has no pain or sorrow, but lives carefree in eternal joy,” Sadler said in the letter.
Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Church, 4492 Lake Ave., Rochester, NY 14612, or Aquinas Institute, 1127 Dewey Ave., Rochester, NY 14613.
