Run for the Young set for May 14 in Greece

Registration has begun for the ninth annual Run for the Young. The 5-kilometer (3.1 mile) road race will take place Saturday, May 14, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence School, 1000 North Greece Road, Greece.

The competition is open to the general public; people of all ages and running ability are welcomed. As an alternative, a one-mile “fun run” is also offered.

Prizes will be awarded in numerous age groups. Also at stake are two special awards — bronzed running shoes from Bishop Matthew H. Clark: the “Most Holy Right Shoe,” for the parish that raises the most money; and the “Most Holy Left Shoe” for the parish with best participation.

Last year a record number of nearly 500 runners took part in the 5K, as well as another 100 participants in the “fun run.” Funds raised through entry fees and pledges collected by runners go toward scholarship funds at the parish and diocesan levels, so that more youths can attend special diocesan events throughout the year.

To register for the 2005 Run for the Young, call 585/328-3210, ext. 1279. You may also download an entry form by accessing the diocesan Web site at www.dor.org/ec/youthministry/programsandevents/runfortheyoung.htm.
