Run raises money for youth

Nearly 200 runners signed up for the Run for the Young 5k run and one-mile fun run held May 3 in Greece. The race raised money for the Bishop Matthew Clark Youth Advocacy Fund, which provides financial support for Catholic teenagers to attend diocesan and national youth faith events.

The race began and ended at St. Lawrence Church, where participants also gathered for an awards ceremony afterwards.

The Most Holy Left Shoe Award, given to the parish with the most runners, and the Most Holy Right Shoe Award, given to the parish that raised the most money, both went to the cluster of St. Vincent DePaul in Churchville, St. Columba/St. Patrick in Caledonia and St. Mary of the Assumption in Scottsville.

Father Steve Lape was proud of his parishioners for winning the holy shoe awards, as well as many individual medals.

“We’ve got a lot of show and tell to do at Mass tonight,” he said.

Full results from the race are available on YellowJacket Racing’s website.
