St. Ann’s Community in Rochester began a weeklong series of events Nov. 5 to honor grief. As part of the event, the Venerable Tenzin Yignyen created a sand mandala in the lobby over the course of the week. The Tibetan Buddhist monk, who is a visiting professor of Tibetan Buddhism at Geveva’s Hobart and William Smith Colleges, said a mandala serves as an object of meditation and a spiritual tool.
