To the editor:
I am astonished at Father John Catoir’s February column, "Facts show nation is going wrong way". Astonished is incorrect — I am mad as hell! To say we are sinking because of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid without mentioning 2 billion dollars a week spent on the war in Afghanistan and the trillions spent on war in general is absurd.
This is not the "Catholic" I was taught! If we have changed for the worse as a country it is because we did not heed the words of the last great Republican president, Dwight David Eisenhower. The military industrial complex runs the country if not the world.
Throwing around "facts" without backing them up is dangerous. I have been to China and seen the young girls in the factories without any choice in the matter. I know for a "fact" that the USSR had many millionaires way before their country fell.
GREED is the main cause of the changes we see in this country. I am a pro-life, pro-gun liberal! The liberal part comes from my Catholic upbringing!
