School Sister of Notre Dame marks 60th jubilee

60 Years

Sister Lorraine Burns (formerly Sister Mary Ronald) is celebrating her 60th anniversary as a School Sister of Notre Dame.

Sister Burns, a native of Buffalo, was taught by the School Sisters of Notre Dame at St. Mary’s Business School. She entered the aspiranture in Ft. Lee, N.J., and professed her first vows in Baltimore, Md.

Following her teaching career in Maryland and New Jersey, she taught at Holy Family School (1961-64) and St. Joseph Business School (1964-68) in Rochester. After five years as superior and principal at St. Boniface School in Rochester (1968-73), she was missioned to Liberia, Africa. In 1986, she returned to Holy Family School as principal.

In 2003, she began Notre Dame Learning Center in Rochester, a sponsored ministry of the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

Sister Burns currently works for Comfort Keepers in Rochester as a senior companion.
