School Sisters of Notre Dame conclude anniversary year

The School Sisters of Notre Dame will conclude their yearlong celebration of the 175th anniversary of the order’s founding with a Mass Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral, located at 296 Flower City Park in Rochester. There will be a reception in the narthex after the Mass.

Bishop Matthew H. Clark will preside at the liturgy, during which the sisters will give thanks for the blessings they’ve received over the past 175 years and for the opportunities they’ve had to serve throughout the world and in the Diocese of Rochester.

Throughout the order’s history, School Sisters of Notre Dame opened and taught at a number of local parish schools, including the former Ss. Peter and Paul, St. Michael, Holy Redeemer, Holy Family, Holy Ghost and St. Philip Neri schools in Rochester and St. Margaret Mary School in Irondequoit, as well as Irondequoit’s Bishop Kearney High School.
