School to hold annual 5K race

St. Mary School in Canandaigua will hold its sixth-annual Chosen Run 5K race Aug. 28 during St. Mary Parish’s annual Summer Festival.

The race will begin at 9:30 a.m. on the south side of St. Mary School, 16 E. Gibson St. The route will follow Gibson Street through neighborhood streets and finish on the east side of the school on Hubble Street. Walkers also are welcome to participate in the race, which is certified through USA Track and Field, the national governing body for track and field, long-distance running and race walking.

An awards ceremony will be held at 10 a.m., and prizes will be awarded for the top three finishers in each age group. The top male and female finishers overall also will win $75.

Entry fees are $20 for adults 20 years and older who preregister by Aug. 20 and $25 for adults who register between Aug. 20-28. Students between the ages of 13 and 19 may register for $15.

The race also features a separate, free Fun Run, which is a .3-mile loop course for children 12 and under. The Fun Run will start at 9:15 a.m.
