Rochester Mayor Robert J. Duffy, elected officials, members of Interfaith Action, neighborhood groups and residents on Oct. 18 announced that $450,000 worth of improvements are planned for Sebastian Park, an 8-acre park at 20 Planet St., Rochester, near Edison Tech.
The park, which has in recent years been plagued by crime, is named for the late Father Sebastian Contegiacomo, former pastor of Most Precious Blood Church, whose parishioners have pushed for the revitalization.
Crews will install a new playground and an exercise trail around the perimeter of the park that links to the adjacent Lexington apartment complex. The basketball court also will be reconstructed and the existing park pavilion will receive a new floor and replacement roof.
State Assemblywoman Susan John, D-Rochester, secured $300,000 for the project; the city will contribute the remaining amount from prior year capital-improvement program funds. Design will take place this fall and construction is set to begin in the summer of 2008.
