Second collections for flooding victims encouraged

Bishop Salvatore R. Matano is encouraging parishes to consider conducting second collections the weekend of Sept. 10-11 to help the victims of flooding in Louisiana.

The suggestion came in response to a request from Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, president of the U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops. The funds will support the humanitarian efforts of Catholic Charities USA and provide support to Catholic dioceses affected by the flooding.

Nearly 20,000 people have been rescued from the flood waters and 60,000 homes have been lost, according to Rochester diocesan officials.

Donations also may be made online at https://catholiccharitiesusa.org.
