To the editor:
On the matter of Pope Pius XII, a few facts need to be stated.
Pope Pius XII most certainly spoke out against Hitler. His Christmas messages are 1940 and 1942 clearly attest to this.
Throughout Europe Papal Intervention saved 850,000 Jews according to Jewish historian Pinchas Lapide.
Eighty-Five percent of Rome’s Jews survived. The Vatican, convents and monasteries were flooded with refugees. The Pope’s summer residence sheltered hundreds. Thirty-Four children were born there. The chief Rabbi of Rome, Israel Zolli converted in 1945, and took the name Eugenio.
Professor Ronald J. Rychlak, one of the worlds leading authority on Pius XII, Sister Margherita Marchione and Rabbi David Dalin have written extensively on Pius XII and his efforts during the war.
Maybe in the future you could publish articles defending this courageous servant of God. In the meantime let us reflect on the three million Catholics who died in the camps and the two thousand priests who perished in Dachau’s infamous priest block.
I hope your readers will want to learn the truth of Pius XII efforts to save as many lives as he could.
