To the editor:
We hear that some of our parishes are in dire financial straights!?!
Let us back up a bit. Back when parishes were staffed with zealous volunteers, parishes were spiritually flourishing and moneys overflowed the banks. The powers-that-be decided to fix the situation. The zealous all-volunteer staff was told to "take a hike" and were informed that they would all be replaced with hired professionals holding college degrees! Of course!
Now that volunteer/professional dilemma was fixed, parishes are spiritually languishing and in dire financial straights. What’s up with that?
