Seminars will focus on disadvantaged Africans

Two events related to social justice in Africa will take place Sunday, Feb. 10, at parishes in Tompkins County.

Dr. Catherine Husa, a retired obstetrician/gynecologist from Ithaca, and Sister Elizabeth Burns, an 84-year-old Sister of Mercy, will appear at Lansing’s All Saints Church following the 10:30 a.m. Mass. Both have dedicated themselves to assisting the poor in Ghana, particularly young women who have suffered complications due to childbirth. For details, contact Andra Benson 607-342-2147 or abenson2@twcny.rr.com.

At 6 p.m. on Feb. 10, a presentation on Darfur will take place at the parish hall of Groton’s St. Anthony Church. The presenter will be John H. Weiss, founder of the Darfur Action Group at Cornell University, where he serves as an associate professor of history. Weiss is a specialist in genocide history and has produced nine television programs about Darfur.
