A new library recently opened in St. Francis and St. Clare’s Ministry Center, located at 35 Center Street in Waterloo.
Parishioner Carolyn Simolo spent several months sorting and organizing books from the libraries of the former St. Patrick School in Seneca Falls and St. Mary School in Waterloo and soliciting donations of more recent books from parishioners.
“It’s a lot of Catholic books,” explained Simolo, who recently retired after a long career working in the libraries of St. Patrick School as well as the New York State Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls. “We have a church history section, we have a lot on Jesus and the Blessed Mother, and we’ve got a bunch on the saints ‚Ķ and some novels that are inspirational or Catholic-based. There are a lot of books that are Catholic-based that you won’t find at small public libraries.”
The library is located in the room where the parish holds its free pancake breakfasts each week, and the library will be open any time the Ministry Center is open. Anyone may borrow a book, and Simolo asks that they record the book’s title as well as their name and phone number in a logbook located in the library.
