Sept. 11 bell to be used locally

A bell used in 9/11 memorial tributes and ceremonies will be featured in an annual memorial service to honor local residents who have died alone.

The service will be held Feb. 11 at St. Ambrose Church, which is part of Peace of Christ Parish, according to information from Sister of St. Joseph Beth LeValley. A dinner will follow.

Brother David Schlatter, OFM, the founder of the "Bells of Remembrance" project, will take part in the memorial service. He donated the 1,700-pound cast iron bell last fall to the Greater Rochester Community of Churches-Faith in Action Network in honor of its initiative to bury area residents who have no family or resources, according to Sister LeValley.
