Series on caring for older adults planned

On Tuesdays from Sept. 20 through Oct. 25, Spencerport Ecumenical Ministries is hosting a free six-week educational program for those caring for an older adult.

“Caring for an Aging Loved One” will be presented by Mercy Center with the Aging, a ministry of the Sisters of Mercy.

Each seminar runs from 7 to 9 p.m., except an additional half-hour on Oct. 18 covering financial and legal issues.

Seminar topics and dates are:

* Sept. 20: “How to Get Started, Sensory Impairments & Mental Health” at St. John the Evangelist Church, 55 Martha St.

* Sept. 27: “Caregiving: Communication and Changing Roles & Responsibilities” at Spencerport United Methodist Church, 32 Amity St.

* Oct. 4: “Home Care & Alternative Housing Options” at Parma Baptist Church, 4997 W. Ridge Road.

* Oct. 11: “Hospital (Acute) Care & Long-term Care” at First Congregationalist United Church of Christ, 65 Church St.

* Oct. 18: “Financial Planning and Elder Law/Estate Planning” at Ogden Presbyterian Church, 2400 S. Union St.

* Oct. 25: “Nurturing the Human Spirit” at Trinity Lutheran Church, 191 Nichols St.

Preregistration is encouraged. Participants may attend individual sessions. For more information or to register, call Mercy Center with the Aging at 585/760-5470.
