Share the joy of Catholic faith with Protestant brethren

To the editor:

I’m writing in response to the editor’s note at the end of my letter in the December issue (“Go deeper in dialogue”), regarding the number of non-Catholic denominations. I was thinking not only of mainline churches but of the many non-denominational churches and sects that are spread throughout the world and in our own communities.

It was not my intention to sound critical of our separated bretheren or arrogant of my Catholic faith, but to encourage Catholics to help instruct those, because of centuries of entrenched prejudice or misunderstandings have no knowlegde of what the Catholic Church teaches or what those teachings are based on. Isn’t this one the spriitual works of mercy?

I am still learning the faith myself and hope to until I’m either physically or mentally unable to do so. God willing it’s a long way off but I continue to pray for conversions and re-conversions to the faith, and when or if a moment comes to “give a reason for my joy” as a Catholic I’ll have the words.
