Sister Agatha Corgel, SSJ, 83

Sister Agatha Corgel of the Sisters of St. Joseph died on Feb. 11, 2005, at the age of 83.

She entered the congregation from her home parish of Immaculate Conception in Ithaca in 1939, subsequently earning two bachelor’s degrees from Nazareth College.

Her teaching career spanned more than 30 years in diocesan schools, including St. Francis Xavier, Corpus Christi, Our Lady of Lourdes, Sacred Heart, Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. Augustine, all in Rochester; St. Mary, Elmira; St. Patrick, Corning; Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Brockport; and Sacred Heart, Auburn.

After studying accounting, she served the congregation as medical insurance and social security consultant.

Sister Agatha is survived by her niece and nephew and her sisters in the congregation. Following her funeral liturgy in the motherhouse chapel on Feb. 16, 2005, interment was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
