Sister Alma Joseph Bauman of the Sisters of St. Joseph died at the congregation’s motherhouse on Jan. 7, 2004. She was 96.
Sister Bauman entered the congregation in 1931 from her home parish, Holy Trinity, Webster. Following an assignment at Immaculate Conception School in Ithaca, she assumed clerical duties at the motherhouse.
From 1941-45 she established the business offices at the order’s ministry at St. Elizabeth Parish in Selma, Ala. Returning to Rochester, she served in various secretarial positions including secretary general and director of the health-insurance and Social Security programs until her retirement in 1992.
Sister Bauman is survived by her sister-in-law, Barbara Bauman; and nieces, nephews and her sisters in the congregation. Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel on Jan. 12, followed by burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
