Sister Anna Louise Staub, SSJ, 94

Sister of St. Joseph Anna Marie Staub, 94, died Aug. 22, 2007, at the congregation’s motherhouse.

Sister Staub entered the congregation from her home parish of St. Augustine in Rochester. After attending Nazareth Normal School, she earned a bachelor’s degree in applied music from the College of the Sacred Heart in Mahattanville, and in 1956 she received a master’s degree in music from Nazareth College in Pittsford.

She taught at Rochester’s Nazareth Hall for six years then became a vocal-music teacher at St. Monica and Holy Rosary schools in Rochester and Nazareth College. From 1951-60 she served as music supervisor for the congregation then as principal of St. Augustine School in Rochester and St. John the Evangelist School in Greece. In 1978 she returned to teaching music, this time at St. Jerome School in East Rochester, where she expanded her ministry to include retreat director for the parish. In retirement she continued to teach piano to young students.

Sister Staub is survived by her sister-in-law, Kathleen Staub; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and her sisters in the congregation.

Her funeral liturgy was celebrated at the motherhouse chapel on Aug. 25, 2007, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
