Sister Annunciata McCabe, SSJ

Sister Annunciata McCabe, SSJ, died Feb. 16, 2005, at the age of 98.

Sister McCabe entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1924 from her home parish of Sacred Heart in Rochester. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Canisius College and a master’s degree in French from Montreal University. She pursued her ministry in education until her retirement in 1989. During those years, she served at Nazareth Academy for 46 years as a language teacher, directress of studies, vice principal and, from 1965 to 1973, as its principal. She then served as special assistant to the vice president of Nazareth College, focusing on planning and development.

She is survived by her niece, Jeanne Spiegel; her nephew, Gerard McCabe; and her sisters in the congregation.

Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel on Feb. 18, 2005, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 150 French Road, Rochester, NY 14618.
