Sister Barbara Baker, MHSH, marks 50th jubilee

Sister Barbara Baker, MHSH, is celebrating her 50th jubilee this year.

The native of Scottsville entered the Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart in Baltimore, Md., on Sept. 11, 1960.

In 1963 she taught adult education in the Brockway, Pa., area and religion to elementary and high-school students. In 1965 she continued her undergraduate studies in psychology at Notre Dame of Maryland College, graduating in 1968.

From 1967-83 she worked in religious education in Pennsylvania, New York and Ohio. From 1983-86 she was vocations director for her order.

She then worked as a pastoral associate for 12 years in Marietta, Ga., and after a yearlong sabbatical returned to the Rochester Diocese in 1999 to work at St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Greece. She is now pastoral associate and director of faith formation at St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Gates.
