School Sister of Notre Dame Bernice Staub (formerly Sister Mary Christina) died Jan. 15, 2008, at St. Ann’s home in Rochester. She was 79.
Sister Staub entered the order in 1948 and was a teacher at several Catholic schools in Maryland, Vermont and Pennsylvania.
In 1967, she served in a leadership role at Bishop Kearney High School in Irondequoit from 1967-75, then taught at the school until 1980. From 1980-86 she served as associate principal at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover, Del., and in 1986 returned to Bishop Kearney where she was guidance counselor until her retirement in 1996.
After retiring she volunteered at St. Bernard Park, an assisted-living facility in Rochester.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Staub was celebrated at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Rochester Jan. 19, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
