Sister of St. Joseph Beverly Jones (formerly Sister Agnes Louise) died May 25, 2016. She was 92 years old.
She entered the congregation in 1944 from her home parish of Immaculate Conception, Ithaca. She earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Nazareth College in 1945 and a master’s degree in music education from the Eastman School of Music in 1951.
In 1946, Sister Jones began teaching instrumental music at St. Monica, Immaculate Conception and Nazareth Academy in Rochester. For the next nearly 50 years, she taught instrumental music at Nazareth Academy. She conducted an orchestra, and founded and led the Fontbonne Marching Band. She retired from teaching in 1995.
Following her retirement, Sister Jones served as a coordinator of volunteers at St. Joseph’s Convent Infirmary, where she remained until 2003. In 2003 she moved to the motherhouse in Pittsford and volunteered her services to all the retired sisters.
Sister Jones is survived by her sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel in Pittsford on May 31, 2016, with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
