Sister Campion Bush, SSJ, 81

Sister of St. Joseph Campion Bush died May 13, 2013. She was 81 years old.

Sister Bush entered the congregation from her home parish of Our Lady of Lourdes, Elmira, in 1952. She received a bachelor’s degree in education in 1960 and a bachelor’s degree in history in 1965, both from Nazareth College in Pittsford. In 1976 she earned a master’s degree in history from St. Bonaventure University.

She taught at St. Patrick, Mount Morris; St. Monica, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Corpus Christi and Sacred Heart Cathedral, Rochester; and Mother of Sorrows, Greece. In 1968, she became principal at St. Mary our Mother, Horseheads, where she remained until 1975. She then briefly returned to the classroom at St. Patrick Junior High, Elmira, and Nazareth Academy, Rochester, until she was assigned as principal at Immaculate Conception, Ithaca, in 1978.

From 1986-98, Sister Bush served as the evangelization coordinator at St. Augustine, Rochester, and later for the Roman Catholic Community of the 19th Ward, Rochester. In 1998 she became the assistant local coordinator at St. Joseph’s Convent Infirmary, and then served as facilitator of special needs. She also provided the sisters transportation to medical appointments.

Sister Bush is survived by her twin sister, Katrina Sekella; her nieces, Deborah (Sam) Perkins, Mary (Richard) Schrock and Katina Sekella; her nephew, Stephen Sekella; many grandnieces and grandnephews; and by her sisters in the congregation.

Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel May 22, 2013, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
