Sister of St. Joseph Catherine Ann Reger died on March 25, 2015. She was 93 years old.
She entered the congregation in 1940 from her home parish of Holy Family in Rochester. She earned a BS in medical technology from Nazareth College in 1949, and earned an MS in microbiology from St. Bonaventure University in 1962.
Sister Reger worked as a lab technician at St. Joseph Hospital in Elmira from 1942-50. She then taught at Mother of Sorrows, Greece; St. Monica, Rochester; and St. Alphonsus, Auburn, before being assigned to Rochester’s Nazareth Academy as a biology teacher where she served until 1972.
For the next 10 years, Sister Reger worked as a pastoral assistant at St. Alphonsus Parish, Auburn, and later at St. John the Evangelist Parish, Greece. She then took a position with Rochester’s Catholic Family Center as a field supervisor in the STAR program, providing services to the elderly in their homes. In 1988, she began an outreach to the elderly program at St. Helen Parish in Gates, where she served until her retirement in 1996.
She is survived by her nieces and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel in Pittsford on March 31, 2015, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
