Sister Clare Francis Mogenhan, 88; teacher, principal

Sister of St. Joseph Clare Francis Mogenhan died Aug. 18, 2021. She was 88 years old.

Sister Mogenhan entered the congregation in 1943 from her home parish of St. Monica Church, Rochester. She received a bachelor’s degree in history and library science in 1957 from Nazareth College and a master’s degree in education in 1971 from the SUNY Cortland.

Sister Mogenhan began her teaching career in 1948 at Immaculate Conception, Rochester. She also taught at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Rochester; Immaculate Conception, Ithaca; St. Rose, Lima; Mother of Sorrows, Greece; and St. Mary, Dansville. In 1963, she was assigned as principal at Immaculate Conception, Ithaca. She also served as principal at Elmira Regional Junior High School, and St. Monica and Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Rochester.

She became the administrator of Trinity Montessori School in 1989 and dedicated the next 17 years in service to the students at the school. When she retired in 2006, Sister Mogenhan remained committed to the interests of that ministry and its children.

Sister Mogenhan is survived by her nieces, nephews, friends and sisters in the congregation. Her funeral liturgy was celebrated at the motherhouse chapel Aug. 23, 2021, with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
