Sister of St. Joseph Diane Dennie (formerly Sister Eileen) died Dec. 14, 2021. She was 80 years old.
Sister Dennie entered the congregation in 1961 from her home parish of Holy Trinity, Webster. She received a bachelor’s degree in English in 1964 and master’s degree in education in 1976, both from Nazareth College.
She taught at Sacred Heart Cathedral School, Rocheter; St. Pius Tenth, Chili; and St. Mary, Canandaigua, where she was principal for three years. In 1977, she became principal at St Lawrence, Greece, where she remained for more 20 years. While there, she also coordinated the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program for the parish.
In 1998, Sister Dennie attended St Bernard’s Institute to prepare for a career in pastoral ministry. In 2000, she was assigned to St. Bridget/St. Joseph Parish in East Bloomfield as pastoral administrator. Six years later, she accepted a position at St. Michael Church in Lyons, St. John Church in Clyde and St. Patrick Church in Savanah. She retired to the motherhouse in 2012, where she participated in service and the prayer ministry.
She is survived by her brother, Richard (Elaine), as well as her niece, nephews, friends and sisters in the community.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel Dec. 20, 2021, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
