Sister Francis Mary Rossi, SSJ, 87

Sister of St. Joseph Francis Mary Rossi died Aug. 4, 2016. She was 87 years old.

She entered the congregation in 1948 from her home parish of Holy Cross in Rochester. She earned a bachelor’s of science in education from Nazareth College in 1956.

Sister Rossi taught at Holy Rosary and Sacred Heart Cathedral, Rochester; St. Patrick, Seneca Falls; Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Brockport; and St. Elizabeth in Selma, Ala. She also served as both teacher and principal at St. Francis Xavier, Rochester.

Sister Rossi was pastoral assistant at St. Theodore, Gates, from 1978-88 and at Most Precious Blood, Rochester, from 1988-93. From 1993 until her retirement in 2003, Sister Rossi served people in their homes through the Sisters of St. Joseph ministry Sisters Care. After her retirement, she continued to work with the elderly by volunteering her services at Legacy Senior Housing.

She is survived by her sister, Isabel Yancone; nephews; many dear friends; and her sisters in the congregation.

Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel in Pittsford on Aug. 8, 2016, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
