Sister of St. Joseph Genevieve Borgyon (formerly Mary Elizabeth) died Sept. 21, 2020. She was 103 years old.
Sister Borgyon entered the congregation in 1935 from her home parish of St. John the Evangelist, Greece. She received a bachelor’s degree in 1946 and a master’s degree in education in 1957, both from Nazareth College.
She taught for 40 years in St. Ambrose, St. Augustine, Nazareth Hall Cadet School and St. Anne in Rochester; St. Mary, Elmira; St. John, Greece; and St. Pius Tenth, Chili. She also served as principal and superior at St. Thomas More for three years. In 1977, Sister Borgyon was assigned as an English teacher at Nazareth Academy.
In 1980, she returned to St. Ambrose to teach remedial and enrichment reading. Then, beginning in 1987, she served as a clerical assistant there, as staff in the Alumnae Office at Nazareth Academy, and finally as secretarial assistant at Trinity Montessori. Sister Borgyon provided services at the Nazareth Academy convent until her retirement in 2004.
Sister Borgyon is survived by her sister, Bernadette; nieces and nephews; friends; and her sisters in the congregation. Her funeral liturgy was celebrated at the motherhouse chapel Sept. 24, 2020, with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
