Sister Grace Noël Gleichauf, who served in various ministries throughout her 77 years as a Sister of St. Joseph, died July 26, 2022. She was 97 years old.
Sister Gleichauf entered the congregation in 1944 from her home parish of St. Monica, Rochester. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Nazareth College in 1951.
She began teaching at St. Anthony of Padua, Rochester, in 1947. She also taught at St. Stephen, Geneva, and St. Bridget and Corpus Christi, Rochester. In 1963, Sister Gleichauf was assigned as relief house mother at St. Joseph’s Villa, and in 1970, she also was put in charge of the purchasing department.
Sister Gleichauf went to the Sisters of St. Joseph Prayer Center as a staff member and served as an extraordinary minister of holy Communion at Highland Hospital in 1977. In 1981, she moved to Ithaca, where she taught religion and worked in the learning center at Immaculate Conception School.
In 1998, she returned to the motherhouse in Pittsford, where she served for 12 years as sacristan. She then worked in congregational services, generously helping wherever there was a need.
Sister Gleichauf is survived by her sisters, Arlene (Ed) Matthews and Doris (Jack) Graham; nieces and nephews; friends; and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel Aug. 4, 2022, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
