Sister Helen Gray, SSJ, at 91

Sister of St. Joseph Helen Gray (Sister Helen Agnes) died May 26, 2003, at the congregation’s motherhouse. She was 91.
 

Sister Gray entered the Sisters of St. Joseph from Holy Rosary Parish in 1931. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Nazareth College and served in diocesan schools for more than 40 years.
 

Her teaching assignments included St. John, Spencerport; Nazareth Model School; St. Paul, Oswego; Our Lady of Lourdes, Blessed Sacrament and Guardian Angels in Rochester; St. Mary, Dansville; and St. Joseph, Wayland. From 1966-69, Sister Gray was principal at St. Patrick School in Seneca Falls. She later served as apostolic visitor at St. Ann’s Home and as a convent cook, retiring in 1992.
 

She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Virginia Gray and Alberta Gray; several nieces and nephews; and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated on May 29 at the motherhouse chapel followed by burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 150 French Road, Rochester NY 14618.
