Sister of St. Joseph Jane Joseph Deshayes died Aug. 19, 2007, at the congregation’s motherhouse. She was 90 years old.
Sister Deshayes entered the order from her home parish of St. Jerome in East Rochester in 1935. She earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in education from Nazareth College in Pittsford in 1947 and 1955, respectively.
She taught at St. Ambrose, St. Monica, Sacred Heart Cathedral and Our Lady of Good Counsel schools in Rochester, and Mother of Sorrows in Greece. She taught high school at Mt. Carmel in Auburn and St. Agnes in Rochester, and also served as schedule coordinator at St. Agnes. She then served as a secretary at Queen of Peace School, then as director of the altar bread department at the motherhouse from 1988-2002.
She is survived by her cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews, friends and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel Aug. 22, 2007, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
