Sister of St. Joseph Jeanne Agnes Michaud died on March 9, 2011, at the age of 87.
Sister Michaud entered the congregation from her home parish of Holy Redeemer, Rochester, in 1942. She received a bachelor’s degree in education in 1949 and a master of science degree in education in 1956, both from Nazareth College. In 1980 she earned a master of library science degree from SUNY Geneseo.
From 1945-57 she taught grammar school at Holy Apostles, and Corpus Christi in Rochester and Mother of Sorrows in Greece. In 1957 she went to Auburn to teach English at Mount Carmel High School. From 1966-75 she served as secretary to the president of the congregation. Sister Michaud then went to Rochester’s Nazareth Academy, where she was the school librarian and media specialist.
In 1989 she assumed the position of congregational archivist and director of the Religious Life Resource Center. There she organized decades worth of congregational history until her retirement in 2005.
She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Janet Michaud, Georgia Michaud and Patricia Michaud; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and her sisters in the congregation. Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel in Pittsford on March 15, 2011, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
